Il coaching e’ tradizionalmente indirizzato al raggiungimento di obiettivi concreti ed e’ spesso usato all’interno di aziende per migliorare le prestazioni lavorative di impiegati e managers.

Il ruolo del coach e’ di supportare il cliente nel raggiungimento dei suoi obiettivi. Il coach e’ in parte tutor, insegnante, ma soprattutto un facilitatore. Il cliente sceglie una meta e il coach mette a disposizione la sua professionalita’ per accompagnare il cliente verso quell’obiettivo. Con un coach la meta e’ piu’ chiara e viene raggiunta in modo piu’ efficace.

Una tecnica molto usata consiste nello scrivere l’obiettivo che si vuole perseguire in base ai seguenti parametri:

 S                     Specifico

M                     Misurabile

A                      Accessibile

R                      Risultato chiaro

T                      Tempistiche specifiche

Un obiettivo cosi’ formulato diventa infatti un vero e proprio piano di sviluppo per quell’obiettivo, contenente tutte le informazioni e istruzioni necessarie.

Nell’area del coaching in tanti stanno scoprendo che un approccio unicamente focalizzato all’aspetto pratico degli obiettivi non e’ abbastanza. C’e’ un livello piu’ sottile e talvolta impercettibile che influenza la nostra capacita’ di realizzare obiettivi. A questo livello il cliente fa un esperienza di crescita personale e arricchisce i suoi obiettivi con questi ingredienti:

A            Autenticita’

C            Consapevolezza

E            Empowerment

L’obiettivo e’ ora una parte autentica del progetto di vita del cliente che, con la nuova consapevolezza di se’ acquisita, puo’ ora piu’ facilmente attingere al proprio potere personale.

Attraverso il potere evocativo delle loro immagini i Tarocchi possono arricchire il coaching mirato ad un autentica scoperta di se. Diversi aspetti della propria personalita’ possono essere esplorati attraverso lo specchio delle carte che riflettono le nostre energie ed emozioni. L’interazione con i Tarocchi e’ istintiva ed immediata e non serve che il cliente conosca i Tarocchi perche’ le immagini provocano una reazione immediata e quella reazione e’ cio’ che conta.

Con la storia che segue vorrei raccontare con un esempio concreto di come i Tarocchi possono integrarsi e completare un processo di coaching.

Una seduta di Coaching

Un professionista mi ha contattato per lavorare su un progetto lavorativo collegato ad una promozione. Il cliente ha formulato il suo obiettivo in modo specifico, misurabile, orientato al risultato, raggiungibile e con tempistiche chiare, ma le cose non stanno andando secondo i piani.

Quando il cliente parla dei suoi obiettivi e del lavoro che lo ha portato ha redigerli con il collegamento ai piani aziendali e alle proprie ambizioni lavorative, l’energia del cliente ha una spiccata impronta strategica, logica e razionale.

Mi sembra quasi di vedere un capitano al timone della sua nave mentre descrive orgoglioso le rotte che ha pianificato di navigare.

Quando il cliente inizia a parlare delle difficolta’ incontrate, l’orgoglio e la sicurezza cedono spazio ad un altro tono energetico, di frustrazione, confusione e pena.

E’ allora che un altra energia inizialmente indistinta si fa spazio.

La reazione del cliente a questa seconda energia e’ veloce ed indirizzata a riprendere il controllo attraverso le energie razionali normalmente piu’ frequentate mentre l’energia di frustrazione rimane sullo sfondo.

La prima impressione e’ che gli obiettivi siano stati scelti dalle voci primarie del cliente che normalmente guidano la sua vita. Tuttavia e’ chiaro che ci siano degli altri aspetti meno conosciuti della personalita’ del cliente che stanno giocando un ruolo importante nel bloccare la realizzazione di questi obiettivi. Il cliente e’ a disagio rispetto a questa  diversa energia e cerca di superare le sue difficolta’ sopprimendola.

Chiedo al cliente di scegliere una carta dal mazzo degli arcani maggiori dei Tarocchi. Desidero contattare l’energia primaria del cliente. Il cliente guarda le immagini di tutte le carte e sceglie quella che meglio rappresenta la sua personalita’ e il suo approccio al lavoro.

Il cliente sceglie l’Imperatore (IV).

A questo punto il cliente spiega la sua scelta e cosi’ facendo inizia ad entrare in contatto con questo aspetto primario della sua personalita’.

Il cliente incontra la propria voce primaria attraverso l’immagine della carta.

Questo puo’ rappresentare un filtro protettivo e rassicurante per chi non e’ avvezzo all’esplorazione di subpersonalita’, ma puo’ anche servire per focalizzare il cliente su una specifica energia e la sua qualita’.

Dedicare attenzione al lato primario di questa polarita’ e’ importante per conoscere e capire le ragioni e le paure di chi prende le decisioni nella vita del cliente. Il cliente puo’, grazie a queste informazioni, iniziare a separarsi da questa voce e aprirsi a sperimentare altri aspetti della sua personalita’.

Chiedo allora al cliente di scegliere un’ altra carta, questa volta a carte coperte. Il cliente e’ ora aperto a scoprire un altro aspetto di se’ coinvolto nella situazione su cui stiamo lavorando, l’aspetto trascurato e in ombra.

La carta scelta e’ ora il Mondo (XXI):

La carta scelta da un mazzo coperto rappresenta sempre una sorpresa per il cliente. La reazione alla carta e’  dunque sempre molto interessante. Ancora una volta la  carta e’ filtro protettivo da un lato e lente di ingrandimento dall’altro per il cliente che in questo caso affronta un territorio meno conosciuto, una parte di se’ con cui non ha familiarita’.

La reazione del cliente e’ immediata:” Non so cosa vuol dire, ma il primo pensiero vedendo questa figura che danza nella carta, riguarda la mia partner. Da tempo mi chiede di partecipare insieme ad un corso di ballo che io non posso fare per via dei ritmi del mio lavoro.”

Il cliente e’ in difficolta’ per l’imprevista svolta che la sessione ha preso: improvvisamente stiamo parlando della sua vita privata e non piu’ del suo lavoro.

Il cliente mi parla delle cose in cui crede in materia di lavoro e vita privata e di come sia inconcepibile risparmiarsi sul lavoro per fare una cosa frivola come un corso di ballo.

L’energia primaria sta parlando di nuovo, ma questa volta e’ molto piu’ chiara l’origne dell’ansieta’ e della frustrazione. Il cliente e la sua partner sono diventati l’Imperatore e la fanciulla nella carta del Mondo.

Attraverso questa seduta il cliente ha scoperto quanta ansieta’ gli provoca il rapporto con la sua partner e quanto questo influenzi la sua realizzazione lavorativa.

Questo e’ l’inizio di un percorso di coaching  che rimane focalizzato al  raggiungimento degli obiettivi del cliente. La scoperta  fatta durante la prima seduta dovra’ essere digerita dal cliente ed elaborata nelle successive sedute.

E’ ora di chiudere il sipario su questa seduta e di riconciliare i diversi aspetti sperimentati dal cliente.

Chiedo al cliente di guardare ad entrambe le carte scelte e di considerarle i due membri del team che lo aiuteranno a raggiungere i suoi obiettivi.

Il cliente lascia la seduta piu’ consapevole di se anche se scosso dalle scoperte fatte e non ancora sicuro di quale sara’ il prossimo passo.

Due parole sul metodo

L’ossatura dell’approccio usato in questa seduta di coaching con i Tarocchi e’ il Dialogo delle Voci. La mappatura delle energie primarie e rinnegate e’ il punto di partenza di un processo di esplorazione orientato a creare consapevolezza nel cliente.

I Tarocchi e le loro immagini simboliche accompagnano il cliente nel processo di scoperta e lo aiutano ad entrare in contatto con le voci primarie e rinnegate. Questo puo’ essere usato come un metodo per andare piu’ in profondita’ o come un filtro protettivo che consenta una prima esperienza delle proprie sub-personalita’ in modo indiretto, attraverso i personaggi nelle carte.

I Tarocchi possono essere scelti in modo consapevole dal cliente per rappresentare se stesso nell’energia che sente dominante cosi’ come possono essere scelti a carte coperte per aprirsi ad un messaggio del subconscio. La relazione fra coach e cliente guidera’ la scelta dell’approccio piu’ adeguato.

Il significato tradizionale dei Tarocchi scelti dal cliente puo’ suggerire al coach delle domande da fare al cliente, ma non e’ di per se rilevante per il cliente che fa esperienza diretta dei Tarocchi attraverso la sua intuizione.

It is quite unusual to find a quality as humility amongst the most important leadership quality, especially if it is found at the top of the list.

Ego is the most powerful force in business—for good or bad. More powerful than money, more potent than talent. Ego is the invisible line-item on every company’s profit and loss statement. The problem arise when ego is subtly managing us in the absence of 1) humility, 2) curiosity, and 3) veracity.

This is the theory of Dave Marcum and Steve Smith, the authors of egonomics. Their work was sparked by Jim Collins’ landmark research in Good to Great, who discovered that leaders of companies who break the gravity of good to become truly great have two common—but extremely rare— characteristics: 1) fierce personal resolve/ego drive, 2) extreme personal humility. We hope to make that unique combination far less rare in business. 

Curious about this new concept I read some more about this theory and looked back at my 10 years of corporate experience as I was reading. I have to say it make complete sense. Some of the skills and attitudes considered most appropriate for leaders in business are actually counterproductive.

There is a growing trend in education and personal development: play!

It is more and more observed how playing can help people to learn at school, to learn about themselves and to engage in development within companies. There is a growing number of games that are designed to give much more than some fun time.

The most famous example is probably the Transformation Game developed by the Findhorn community. A powerful tool for personal insight that never stop to surprise me.

Another example is Insight, also a personal development game developed in Italy. The formula is always quite simple and the impact has on the players always important.

I’m pleased to report that also companies are starting to open up to game-based activities to develop their human resources.

In the U.S. there is also a National Institute for Play, committed to unlocks the human potential through play in all stages of life using science to discover all that play has to teach us about transforming our world

The voice dialogue method and the psychology of selves were developed in the seventies by an inspired couple of psychologists Hal and Sidra Stone. This methodology is nowadays applied among others to psychotherapy, coaching, counselling and actor’s training.
I work with voice dialogue since 1993 and I’m still an enthusiastic.

Randy Pausch is a respected university professor in computer science that in the last six month has become an internationally renown and inspiring speaker thanks to his ‘last lecture’.

Randy Pausch is in the terminal stage of pancreatic cancer and despite that he has an incredibly positive attitude towards life that he shared in this lecture.

This below is a 70 minutes lecture.

After watching this lecture it is impossible not to think about your own dreams and how far you have already come in realizing them.

There are a lot of tools you can use in this lecture, a lot of encouragement and light-hearted laughter.

Women earn less than men in the same job position. The European average says that women earn 15% less than their male colleagues.

I was surprise to find out that in England women are paid 30% less than men, while Malta, Hungary and Poland have differences in the order of 10-15%. (Source)

Scandinavian countries are considered the best example of women’s opportunity in the work place, mainly for the introduction of laws requiring a certain percentage of women in senior management position. However Scandinavian women earn on average 18% less than men. (Source)

On a more personal level this data are an invitation to reflect on your own income.

Is this good for you or do you want to learn to believe that you are worth a higher income?

There is nowadays a large number of resources available to help women improve their budgeting skills and learn how to be financially indipendent. However, only few look at the root cause of the mindset that still keeps a lot of women in a dependent situation.

The celebration, this month, of Women’s day has brought attention on some statistical data that describe the situation of women in society.

The most interesting and peculiar news to me is the one I found in a small Dutch paper. The news is that on average Dutch newspaper dedicate 80% of the space to man’s related facts and only 20% to women’s related news.

The Pareto principle comes to mind.

The Pareto principle (also known as the 80-20 rule, the law of the vital few and the principle of factor sparsity) states that, for many events, 80% of the effects comes from 20% of the causes.

Based on this principle, 20% of the space dedicated to women in newspapers can make 80% of the impact on the world.

Some time ago’ I discovered the document that you find here in attachment. It is quite a courageous theory about new trends in the job market and I believe that this text can be not only inspiring but also reassuring. I personally hear so many people that don’t find anymore what they need and want in the traditional structure of employment. Well, there are alternatives.
